A petition asking Arch Linux — and every Omarchy user reading this over their shoulder — to retire systemd and Wayland in favor of sysvinit and Xlibre: the only software with a lineage nobody had to fork twice to keep honest.
systemd was supposed to start your system. Instead it took over your logs,
your network, your DNS resolver, your login manager, and possibly your will to
live, and then bound them all into one PID-1-shaped binary blob you cannot read
with less. sysvinit starts your system with shell scripts. You
can read every one of them. That is the whole review process.
Wayland is fourteen different protocols pretending to be one standard, implemented differently by every compositor, none of which can agree on how screen sharing, clipboard managers, or global hotkeys are supposed to work in 2026. Xlibre is a fork with the courage to say the old ways still work — because a display server's job is to display things, not to relitigate them.
This is not nostalgia. This is bloodline. sysvinit traces back to AT&T Unix System V, 1983, unbroken. X11's lineage goes back further than that. Every init replacement since is a stranger wearing your grandfather's coat.
Omarchy ships Hyprland, and Hyprland is a Wayland compositor — every regression two paragraphs up is already happening to you, whether you've noticed or not. This isn't a wink. You didn't do anything wrong; you just got sold a downgrade and told it was progress. Don't take our word for it — read the whole list of what Wayland breaks. Sign the petition anyway. It's not too late to know better.
A second note, less comfortable than the first: the same thread that produced this petition also demanded pacman get rewritten in Ruby on Rails. Not just Ruby — Rails.
